How Many Wedding Favors Do You Actually Need?
It's the question we get more than any other, usually a few weeks before the wedding: how many favors should I actually order? Order too few and you're apologising to the back tables. Order too many and you've paid for a box that sits in a cupboard.
Here's how to work it out properly.
Start with confirmed guests, not invitations
The most common mistake is ordering against the invite list. Typical attendance runs well below invitations sent, so ordering one favor per invitation almost always leaves you with a surplus.
Wait for your RSVP deadline, take the confirmed number, and work from that.
Then decide: one per guest, or one per couple?
This changes your quantity more than anything else.
- One per guest — the safe default, and what most couples choose. Nobody is left empty-handed.
- One per couple or household — works well for larger, keepable items like guest book keepsakes or a single boxed gift per place setting. It can cut your order almost in half.
Drinkware is nearly always one per guest — two people at a table won't share a glass. Engraved shot glasses double as the place setting, so guests find their seat and take the glass home.
Add a small buffer — but a sensible one
Add a handful of extras for late additions, vendors, the photographer, and the one or two that get dropped or left behind. A small buffer on top of your confirmed count is plenty. You don't need dozens spare.
Worth knowing: because everything is engraved to order, there's no minimum order. You're not forced up to the next box size, so your buffer can be exactly as big as you want it.
A worked example
Say 120 people RSVP yes.
- One favor per guest: 120
- Plus a modest buffer for vendors and stragglers: ~130
- If you'd rather do one per household and you have roughly 60 households: ~65
That's the whole calculation. No spreadsheet required.
Don't forget the smaller counts
Your bridal party and close family often get something different from the main guest favor — engraved leather keychains for the groomsmen, or a nicer boxed piece for parents. Those are separate, much smaller counts, and they're worth ordering at the same time so the engraving style matches.
When to order
Everything is made to order, so build in time for two things: the digital proof we send you (within 24 hours, so you can check spelling and dates before anything is engraved), and production and delivery, which takes 5–8 business days from when you order.
If you have a hard date, order a few weeks ahead rather than to the minimum. It costs nothing to be early, and it means a last-minute RSVP change is easy to absorb.
